Commission - Newfoundland cross 'Sirina' by Captured-In-Pencil
Commission - Newfoundland cross 'Sirina'
This is Sirina, one of two sisters who live in Austria, and was drawn 14”x14”. Sadly, Sirina died 12th June 2013, though was always happy and is described by her owner as “my crazy disobedient sunshine”. Their mother was a black Newfoundland and the father was a white/red farm-mixed breed, perhaps a rough collie-mix.

Mechanical pencils 0.3mm, 0.5mm and 0.7mm HB, 2H, 2B and 4B. Lots of cotton wool, tortillions and several rubbers. Was drawn on A2 heavy-weight cartridge paper, with the finished drawing measuring 14"x14"". Completed October 2014. 14 hours over 4 days.

Commission - Newfoundland cross 'Angel'
This is Angel, one of two sisters who live in Austria, and was drawn 14”x14”. She was 15 this August, and although a little bit confused, is otherwise quite healthy. She is described by her owner as “a grumpy sweetheart”.

Was drawn on A2 heavy-weight cartridge paper, with the finished drawing measuring 14"x14". Completed September 2014. 13 hours over 4 days.

Commission - Retriever/Collie cross 'Teddy' by Captured-In-Pencil
Commission - Retriever/Collie cross 'Teddy'
This is 'Teddy', he is a flat coat retriever/collie cross and is 9 1/2 years. He is a rescue and has been with his current owners for 2 years. He was drawn 16"x12" from a moderately detailed photo, and the collar and lead were removed to give more focus on the eye and nose.

Mechanical pencils 0.3mm, 0.5mm and 0.7mm HB, 2H, 2B and 4B. Lots of cotton wool, tortillions and several rubbers. Was drawn on A2 heavy-weight cartridge paper, with the finished drawing measuring 16"x12". Completed October 2014. 17 hours over 5 days.

Commission - Greyhound 'Hannah' by Captured-In-Pencil
Commission - Greyhound 'Hannah'
This is Hannah, a Greyhound who sadly passed away on Valentine's day 2014. She was a challenge to draw as there were only a limited amount of average quality photos to draw from. This drawing combines one photo which was quite blurred but had a prefered pose, with another which held a lot of detail but was over exposed and had an odd perspective.

Mechanical pencils 0.3mm, 0.5mm and 0.7mm HB, 2H, 2B and 4B. Lots of cotton wool, tortillions and several rubbers. Was drawn on A3 heavy-weight cartridge paper, with the finished drawing measuring 12"x12". Completed September 2014. 13-14 hours over 4 days.

Well, 3 months in as a freelance artist, and I couldnt be happeir. Come on, I sit and draw for a living :D

I have a full diary until Christmas and have filled upto March 2015. I had initially planned to draw a new peice per month to sell as an original and prints, but I havent had time with all the commissions.

Also, as well as being a featured artist with Daler-Rowney, I am now a featured artist with Pentel, one of six on their website. I have also been featured in Octobers issue of Dogs Today magazine after drawing their office dog Betty. A whole page about my artwork!

One very chuffed artist :)

Very nice! I look forward to seeing them. Would you mind my asking how you price things? I have had trouble getting commissions. I can't seem to find a steady line of work with them though I would love to.

I started really cheap which worked out way less than minimum wage, just to get the interest and build up a portfolio of drawings. Every 6 months I would do a price increase, and am steadily working my way up to what I would like to earn (almost there). One other bit of advice would be pick a subject and advertise locally. For example, I decided to focus on dogs, so I printed a simple A4 poster and put it on the notice boards at my local vets, pets shops etc. I even had some business cards every time I went out for a walk with my dog, if I stopped to chat to another dog walker, I would give my card.

Oh, and do a competition. I did one and I got a lot of entries. A runner up ended up placing an order anyway, and so did a couple of entrants.

Good luck :)
